Natural Lipids

Natural lipids are biological substances with essential functions in a number of physiological processes. They are hydrophobic molecules made of fatty acids and glycerol that are present in adipose tissue, dietary sources, and cell membranes. Due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability, and capacity to self-assemble into a variety of shapes, natural lipids have attracted substantial attention in the field of drug delivery.

Natural lipids are used in a variety of drug delivery systems. Drugs can be enclosed and delivered to target areas in a regulated manner using lipid-based drug delivery systems, such as liposomes and solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs). These systems increase a drug's solubility, prevent it from degrading, and increase its bioavailability. In order to improve medication absorption and transport across biological barriers in oral therapeutic formulations, natural lipids can also be employed as excipients.

Natural lipids can also act as gene delivery vehicles, making it possible to transmit genetic material into cells in a secure and effective manner. Systems for delivering genes based on lipids, such as lipid nanoparticles and lipid-based complexes, have benefits including nucleic acid preservation and targeted delivery to particular tissues or cells.
