Cell-specific aptamers can be coupled to therapeutic drugs (e.g. siRNA, miRNA, therapeutic aptamers, chemotherapeutic drugs) or other drug carriers (organic or inorganic nanocarriers) to exploit the high affinity and specificity of the aptamer to increase the local concentration and therapeutic effect of the drug in the target tissue.
