Wear-resistant coatings

7.1. Overview:

Whenever there is tribological contact (i.e. two surfaces interacting), the surfaces eventually wear off gradually due to adhesive wear, abrasive wear, surface fatigue, fretting wear, erosive wear, and corrosion and oxidation wear, which also happens to the implants medical device. The frictional losses may affect the mechanical and biological properties of the product, cause pain to the patient, and even if result in loss of device function.

7.2. Applications:

7.3. Coating materials:

  • Aluminum oxide (Al2O3)
  • Tantalum oxide (Ta2O5)
  • Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)
  • Nitride Nickel (TiN)
  • Titanium Aluminum Nitride (AlTiN)
  • etc ...
