Liposomal Topotecan

Topotecan, a water-soluble analog of camptothecin, specifically inhibits the activity of topoisomerase I by stabilizing the topoisomerase I-DNA complex, resulting in lethal DNA strand breaks. However, like all camptothecins, topotecan undergoes pH-dependent hydrolysis of the lactone ring to form a relatively inert carboxylate salt in aqueous solution. This process acts on cells throughout the patient's body causing serious side effects. One potential solution to this problem is to encapsulate topotecan in liposomes. Liposomes accumulate preferentially at tumor sites due to their ability to extravasate through "pores" or "defects" in the capillary endothelium.

CD Bioparticles manufactures and supplies liposomal topotecan for the research of drug delivery. Contact us to find out how the liposomal topotecan can help your work.
