Application

Liposomes for Cosmetics

Liposomes are spherical vesicles in which their central aqueous section is surrounded by one or more of a bilayer membrane (Lamella) that is frequently enclosed by aquatic environments. These vesicles are formed when amphiphilic lipids confront with aqueous milieu. They can vary in size from 15 nm to several microns. In the last 30 years, the application of liposome has been expanded from drug delivery to the cosmetic field and it is the most widely known cosmetic delivery system nowadays.

  1. What AreLiposomes in Cosmetics?

Liposomes can act as dermal delivery carriers due to their being small, unilamellar, and designed with membrane flexibility. Therefore, liposomes are commonly used in dermal applications, either as protective systems for active ingredients or for their moisturizing properties. The use of the liposomal drug-delivery system for cosmetics was started in 1987, but nowadays they are frequently used in several hundred commercials in various forms like gels, creams, and moisturizers. The lipids used for liposomes contain moisture; therefore, as the liposomal vesicle ruptures, moisture adheres to the skin surface providing hydration.

  1. What Are the Potential Benefits of Using Liposomes in Cosmetic Products?

Liposomes are well-known vesicular cosmetic delivery systems. The topical application of liposomes offers a wide range of advantages including increased moisturization, restoring action, biodegradability, biocompatibility and extended and slow dermal release. Their similar structure to biological membranes allows penetration into the epidermal barrier, compared with other delivery systems. The incorporation of cosmeceuticals using suitable delivery systems is important in the management of cosmetic disorders.

  1. Any Example of Liposomes for Cosmetics?

As is a drug delivery company located in USA, CD Bioparticles offers quality liposomes products and services to support cosmetic formulation development for our clients. By using liposomes, we are able to overcome some restrictions such as low penetration, solubility, stability, duration of effect and high side effects or costs, and improve some other characteristics.

For instance, the Clipos™ Nanoliposomal Alpha Lipoic Acid (Clipos™ Nanoliposomal Alpha Lipoic Acid (Catalog:CDPR-0006 ), which has a particle size of less than 30nm, can enable the alpha lipoic acid to be steadily encapsulated in nano-carriers, greatly improving the absorption efficiency and bioavailability. Clipos™ Nanoliposomal Alpha Lipoic Acid is amphiphilic and suitable for both water-soluble and oil soluble systerm, allowing a wide range of uses. Alpha lipoic acid is an enzyme existing in mitochondria. Lipoic acid is effective in removing dark eye circles, wrinkles and spots. In addition, it enhances metabolism, improving the body’s blood circulation and making your skin enviously firm and delicate.
