Polylactides

PLA is a composite of agglomerated lactic acid, also known as "polylactide". Polylactic acid is formed by the polymerization of a single lactic acid molecule. After the hydroxyl group of one lactic acid molecule and the carboxyl group of another lactic acid molecule are shrunk, the aggregation between multiple lactic acid molecules is realized. The raw material of PLA is corn or potato starch, which is a renewable resource. Its entire production process is safe, non-toxic, and biodegradable. Its biodegradability and biocompatibility mean it has a wide range of biomedical applications. By controlling the crystallinity and copolymerization of isomers or other monomers, the rate of in vitro and in vivo biodegradation can be influenced. Typically, the degradation of PLA is initiated by a hydrolysis process, followed by enzymatic or microbial-based actions. This degradation eventually leads to the fragmentation of PLA, which is ultimately transformed into a harmless substance. Therefore, PLA is widely used in the fields of drug carriers, surgical sutures, and implant materials.

CD Bioparticles offers polylactic acid of different molecular weights for drug discovery research. In addition, we also offer polylactic acid which be modified by 1,10-decadiol, acid, acrylate, amine, butanol, ester, hydroxyl, maleimide and thiol groups.
