Tetraphenylethylene (TPE) and its derivatives are one of the most important and widely studied aggregation-induced luminescence materials (AIE), which means that they do not fluoresce or weakly fluoresce in solution, but have relatively low fluorescence in the aggregated or solid state. Metal-organic frameworks (TPE-MOFs) materials composed of tetraphenylenes with AIE effect are characterized by the luminescence of TPE ligands. In the solid or crystalline state, due to the steric hindrance of the adjacent TPE molecules, the energy of the excited state rises sharply after reaching the lowest point, and the energy gap between the excited state and the ground state increases. Therefore, the non-radiative transition mode is blocked, resulting in fluorescence. At the same time, the luminescent tetrastyryl carboxylic acid or pyridine ligands constructed in MOFs by coordination are confined in the rigid MOFs framework, so that the TPE-MOFs material can have a longer fluorescence lifetime and stronger quantum yield and fluorescence intensity than the ligands. Therefore, it is a good choice to choose TPE as the organic ligand linker when constructing MOFs materials in the fields of fluorescence sensors, bioimaging and drug tracking.
CD Bioparticles manufactures and supplies tetraphenylethylene linkers for MOFs synthesis. Contact us to find out how tetraphenylethylene linkers can help your work.
